Romford & Gidea Park Rugby Club has announced
the appointment of a new Head Coach for the coming season.
The club, which narrowly missed out on promotion to London
Division 2 last season have engaged Dave Paton (ex Dundee
HSFP RFC and Hayward heath Forward ) as Head Coach for the
senior squad for the 2007/2008 campaign.
Dave is a level 3 coach. Dave is one of the
up and coming young coaches in Essex and is part of the talented
Essex RFU set up where he was lead coach of a successful season
with the U15s.this season he will be coaching the U15s and
U17s.
Dave also comes to the club with a wealth of
experience having played national rugby in both Scotland and
England, and has been involved in club coaching on both sides
of the border for the past six years. Most recently, last
season with Millwall RFC he led them to champions of Essex
2 and the President shield victory.
Commenting on his appointment Dave said ' I'm
delighted to have been asked to join the club as Head Coach.
The club has big plans off the pitch and hopefully I can help
in matching those ambitions on the park.' When asked his view
on the new season and to outline his thoughts Dave commented
' Pre - season is going to be critical in preparing all the
senior teams for their respective league campaigns and I'm
looking forward to meeting the players from all the sides,
including the Minis, Youth and ladies.
Winning leagues requires strong squads and
will not be achieved with 20 players. Therefore it is vital
that the 2nd and 3rd teams feel part of everything that is
happening and I hope to see large numbers at the training
sessions starting in July.
' Glyn Johns, Playing Committee chairman expressed
his delight at the new appointment.' This is going to be a
very exciting season Dave Paton is an incredibly talented
young coach who will bring enthusiasm and new ideas to the
squad. During our discussions it was clear that Dave had the
ambition to match that of the club.'
With pre season starting July 3rd all existing
Club members and any newcomers with ambition are invited to
come down and be part of an exciting new season at Crow Lane
All Club members express gratitude to the senior coaches of
the last two seasons, Gary Powell, Andy Mason and Tony Richards
whose commitment and enthusiasm was greatly appreciated.
Senior Pre-season training has started every
Tuesday and Thursday 7.30pm start.
